MAYA – About us and where we operate

Miel Maya Honing asbl is an officially recognised Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).
The organisation’s activities span across economically developing countries, as well as more economically developed countries. In Mexico and Guatemala, these activities take the form of development projects; and in Belgium, the organisation aims at increasing awareness of Fair Trade honey.

Education

“For many, Maya means honeybee; for others, it is a kind of honey as well as the idea of Fair Trade and a well-made product.” The story of Maya honey began in 1975 when a group of bee-keepers in Péten, North Guatemala exported honey to Belgium for the first time … So much progress has been made since then! Miel Maya Honing embodies the benefits from an ongoing, traceable story; we harbour very close ties with our partners, which has allowed us to witness the benefits of Fair Trade and the development of the initiative over time.
