Miel Maya Honing contributes towards the sustainable economic social and environmental development of bee-keeping businesses who are working for ‘public utility’ in marginalised rural communities.
Location: Mexico and Central America, in addition to some African countries as of 2011.
Total number of people benefitting from the project: 1000 bee-keepers, over 5000 including their families.
Project objectives
- Encouraging growth and diversification of the bee-keeping process;
- Helping producers and their families to improve their marketing and economic development;
- Providing democratic support for bee-keeping organisations, and increasing the range of services available to members, particularly to those producers who are most marginalised i.e. women and young people;
- Developing the organisation’s ‘public utility’ as a purpose of the social economy.
